Do you forget where you left your keys? How about birthdays or anniversaries? How about Mother's day?
Maybe you are totally awesome and don't forget anything. I applaud you and truly admire that ability.
I've forgotten keys, walets, paperwork and dozens of other little things. I've forgotten my wife's birthday, our anniversary, and had her cook a big dinner on Mother's day. Not very clever at all.
The message my wife got from those actions is not the message I wanted to send. It was hurtful to be forgotten. My actions were saying "You aren't important enough for me to remember."
But my wife and our marriage is important to me. I promised her before God and more friends than I could name that I was going to be her husband. To love and honor her all the days of our lives. I meant it and still mean it today.
So being busy, stressed, or any other lame reason are just excuses. She and our marriage are a priority. So now I put down reminders in my calendar. I send myself e-mails and I make sure not to forget her. It is a choice to live up to the promise I made.
